Reading Other Fun Blogs
Reading Fun Blogs!
Hello everyone! This week has been filled with lots of different experiences for me in my vet technology program. On Tuesday I had the opportunity to have class at the dairy barn where I got to run and catch cows in a q-catch for the very first time. All these fun firsts had me thinking of all my other experiences with animals and why I have fallen in love with this major. In the upper right, you can see me with my coworkers from Bramble Park zoo. My job at the zoo has given me quite a bit of knowledge of animals and lots of friends and amazing memories. Tomorrow I have an internship exploration appointment with NDSU in hopes of finding a place where I can grow my knowledge and gain experience. To prepare for this appointment I thought it would be best to look up blogs of people in a zoo internship or a person actually in the field.
When searching for blogs on the internet I found several interesting options but the two articles I decided to read were Learning That Being A Zookeeper Is Much More Than Daily Animal Care and A Day In The Life As a Zookeeper at Ararat Ridge Zoo. The first blog I read was about a girl who internshipped at Potter Park Zoo over the summer. I really enjoyed this article because I feel like this girl was very similar to me because she is aspiring to be a zookeeper. The article that the girl wrote talked about her amazing time as an intern at this zoo and it had me getting excited to find my own fun internship. I can see how this article could be helpful to people in society because it can show how much work is put into keeping animals in zoos. Specifically, this article is helpful to me to show how an internship could possibly be running in the future. One thing I did dislike about this blog was it did not show any downside to her life as an intern. This blog was meant to be what she loved about her internship but that does not prepare me for the bad side if there is one.
The second blog I decided to read talked about what daily life as a zookeeper is like. The post told the truth about zookeeping being a lot of work and what it is like to prepare animals to see the guests. Something I thought was great about this article is that it goes step by step from morning to close with what the zookeepers are doing. Getting to know the behind-the-scenes of what a zookeeper is doing during the day is just fun knowledge for the public and for those interested in the job. I only disliked that this article was not as specific to one zookeeper but tried to generalize all the zookeepers day in the blog. Through reading these blogs I felt I gained some helpful resources to see what a job actually will be like. Reading through these blogs made me even more excited to get into my field of work and finally work with animals like I have always wanted to.
